Mars Orbiter suffers computer glitch, Again

NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter entered Slumber strong protective Wednesday - the fourth time this year - after a restart of unexplained causes in relation to the main computer.

The bias shot early Wednesday the 4-year-old orbiter circled Mars, marking the third spontaneous reboot space this year. Glitch in the fourth, who earlier this month, Orbiter is expected to be switched to backup computer.

"We hope for a better understanding of what triggers these events, and then the spacecraft safely on Mars in its investigation resumed next week to win," said Jim Erickson, manager space projects at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's NASA, Pasadena, California - statement.

Currently, the spacecraft '720 million dollars in a protective safe mode awaiting instructions from Earth and in communication with his team mission control, NASA officials said.

JPL engineers are working on the problem of diagnosis Orbiter difficulties before each attempt to revive the six scientific instruments. Work is expected to take several days.

Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is expected to return its main computer in February and June of glitches that engineers initially thought it was caused by stray hits from cosmic rays and solar particles. Earlier this month, the spacecraft switched to computer B side, back-up, also for unknown reasons.

In any event raised spacecraft engineers after a few days.

NASA launched the planet Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter to the red in 2005. It is the strongest ever for the Mars Orbiter home and have more details and pictures from some other function to the red planet combined beamed.

Orbiter has its primary mission in late 2008 and is currently in the midst of an extended mission to go in the middle in 2010.
